Schwere HAUBITZE 42cm SKODA M.17(t)
£95.00

The history of the heavy howitzer SKODA M.17 began during Austro-Hungarian era. In the years of the First World War Austria–Hungarian forces used eight SKODA howitzers with the calibre 42cm (models M.14 and M.16). Ninth howitzer, under designation M.17, was finished after the WW1 and Skoda used it for the demonstration.
During the year 1939 OKH took interest in the possibility to buy this weapon for Wehrmacht and in the year 1940 it done it. After tests M.17 was deployed on Maginot line as a part of special heavy artillery unit No. 800. First goal for this unit was to support troops attacking near Saarbrücken. After it the unit No.800 was used against Schoenengbourg fort. After the French campaign the unit No.800 was deactivated and its weapons stored.
Second part of Skoda M.17‘s war history was written in summer 1942 in Russia during the attack against Sevastopol.
End of the Skoda M.17 is not known, but in year 1944 German army ordered spare parts for this weapon.

PS. How BIG is the German 3rd from right, second picture up. His uniform looks sprayed on!
